Biography

Nikolay Motzov was born in 1973 in the city of Rouse.

In 2005 he graduated from the National Music Academy “Pancho Vladigerov” with master’s degree for singing opera in the class of Professor Ilka Popova and becomes assistant to his singing master. During his studies he won numerous awards from international and national competitions.

He is the winner with First Prize from the “Svetoslav Obretenov” competition, the Grand Prize from “ The Parashkev Hadjiev” competition, the grand and crystal prize from the competition of the “ Bulgarian union of composers” – “ Lyubomir Pipkov” and a Second Prize ( there was no First Prize given) in the international competition in the name of “ Boris Hristov”.

Nikolay Motzov’s debut is in 1998 on the Rouse’s scene in Mozart’s “ Requiem”. During the next year he completed a recording of “ Requiem” in the Bulgarian National Radio with Metodi Matakiev as conductor. The recording of the “Requiem” led to numerous invitations from the Bulgarian National Radio for other future recordings.

During the period 2004- 2006 Nikolay is a scholarship student of the “CEE Musiktheater” foundation related to the Schtatz Opera, Vienna where he specializes at the big star of the Vienna’s Opera Professor Olivera Miljakovic.

During his professional engagements Motzov has had the pleasure of working with such big names for the opera scene such as Anna Tomova Sintova, Aleksandrina Milcheva, Elena Mosuk,Giuseppe Giacomini, Leo Nuci etc.

Nikolay Motzov is being a guest so many times in all big opera theaters in the country, as well as the scenes of the opera theaters in Netherlands, Germany, Russia, South Korea and in the festivals in Soloturn( Switzerland) , Palma de Majorca (Spain) and Evropalia ( Belgium).

He is a regular participant in International festivals” Sofia’s music weeks” and “ Music days in March” where Nikolay participates in series of “ Mesi”, “ Oratorii” and “ Requiems” , most of which are performed for the very first time in Bulgaria.
